As inspiration for companies looking to make their first foray into licensing, we’ve asked a member of the Born To License team to highlight their favourite Top 5 licensed products from some of the most successful brands and Licensors in the biz. In this piece, Licensing Coordinator Amanda Cummings discusses her favourite Barbie licensed products.

Table of Contents

2023, as everyone knows, has been a particularly epic year for Barbie. Barbie, owned by Mattel, is a brand that many have held near and dear to their hearts since childhood – I know I sure have! Due to Barbie’s huge popularity, it is fair to say that only was the Barbie film a total success, but licensed products have been as well.

    Barefoot Dreams Bath Robe

This is the perfect robe for any Barbie lovers. I myself have a Barefoot Dreams’ throw blanket on my current wish list, so I can imagine how incredibly soft this robe is. It is made with Barefoot Dreams’ signature CozyChic fabric, so it is the dream Barbie robe!

    Fossil Watch Ring

Fossil offers an entire limited edition Barbie line with bags, wallets, and jewelry, including this watch ring. I love how unique, yet practical the design of Fossil’s watch rings are. The Barbie watch ring would make a beautiful gift for any Barbie fan. It would last for years.

    Airbnb Barbie Malibu Dream House

This house is incredible – I don’t believe anyone would turn down a chance to stay here! Airbnb partnered with Barbie for the chance for guests to book their time in the house, rented out by “Ken.” The beachfront mansion previously came to Airbnb in 2019 for Barbie’s 60th anniversary. It came back this year and offered guests the chance to raid Ken’s closet, skate on a disco roller rink in their own yellow and pink Impala skates, and even take home a surfboard.

    Zara Barbie Capsule Collection

Zara, similarly to Bloomingdales, did a collection welcoming all to dress up in Barbie inspired clothing. The line includes the gingham dress featured in the film, as well as the black-and-white-striped swimsuit that Barbie wore in her 1959 debut. I love this for Barbie fans looking to recreate looks from the movie either for fun or to wear any day.

    Impala Lightspeed Inline Skates

Impala Roller Skates released a Barbie bright yellow skate, similar to the ones worn by Barbie and Ken themselves. These skates are so fun and something that can be used by skaters for years to come. They definitely make me want to go practice my rollerskating!

This year has proven how strong the love for Barbie still is and will always be. It is a nostalgic brand that will forever appeal to all ages. Thanks to licensing, there are countless ways to connect people from all around the world through their shared admiration of a brand.
