WOLFpak brand licensing case study
Iconic Licenses. Weekly Drops. Collections that sell out in 48 hours.
WOLFpak came to Born to License with some licensing experience and a bold ambition. Starting then, they've built a licensing program spanning some of the biggest names in entertainment, creating a βdropβ model that keeps fans coming back for more.
LICENSES:
WOLFpak is a family-owned backpack brand that began in 2020 as a garage startup in Southern California and has since grown into a globally recognized name. Known for innovative designs, fashion-forward colorways, and personalized velcro patches that let customers express their individuality, WOLFpak blends performance-driven style with self-expression.
THE RESULTS
Licensing has transformed WOLFpak's business, unlocking new customer segments, improving ROI on ad spend, and building a genuine collectibility mindset among fans. Limited-edition drops now sell out in as little as 48 hours, with customers buying in ahead of release the same way sneakerheads chase a new shoe release.

WOLFpak started with one mission: build the perfect backpack for bodybuilders. Frustrated by flimsy, poorly designed gym bags on the market, founder Michael built a pack that could handle heavy gym gear, shaker bottles, and daily essentials with zero compromise. As a trendsetter in the market, WOLFpak offers innovative designs, fashion-forward colorways, and personalized patches that let customers express their individuality. Every product blends performance-driven functionality with the ability to showcase one's true self.
WOLFpak had some experience in the licensing space, but sought our expertise to take things to the next level.
-
We began by understanding our clientβs vision, products, and customer base, identifying King Featuresβ evergreen property, Popeye, as the ideal fit. We crafted and presented a compelling pitch to King Features, highlighting WOLFpakβs unique business model and strong customer base, and led negotiations to secure mutually beneficial terms. We also simplified the License Agreement process, ensuring clarity and alignment for all parties before finalizing the deal.
With our support, WOLFpak successfully partnered with King Features, elevating their popular backpack range and delighting fans with trendy accessories.
-
Once the license was signed, we gained access to King Featuresβ style guides and assets for Popeye. Our team reviewed the materials, guiding WOLFpak through the various options to determine the best fit for their products. With a wide range of designs and an ambitious timeline, our Product Development team ensured timely submissions to meet tight production schedules.
All materials were submitted in stages via the Licensorβs approval platform. We streamlined the process by proactively refining submissions to align with approval standards, minimising delays and ensuring efficiency.
Everything, including marketing collateral, had to be submitted at various stages of development. We managed this diligently on behalf of the Licensee, submitting material to the Licensorβs preferred approvals platform. Anything that we thought wouldnβt get approved was amended before being submitted, allowing for a more efficient process.
-
The Popeye βSink or Swimβ collection features 5 versatile bags and 6 collectible velcro patches designed for mix-and-match customization. Each piece blends WOLFpakβs signature performance-driven design with Popeyeβs iconic grit, built for those who train hard, hustle harder, and live with purpose.
We aligned with the Licensor and Licensee marketing and social teams to ensure the launch was maximized across all channels, and we facilitated the creation of a giveaway on WOLFpakβs social channels ahead of the launch.
-
We continue to oversee reporting obligations, including quarterly royalty reports, ensuring compliance and accuracy across every partner in WOLFpak's growing portfolio. Our commitment to exceptional service means we're always on hand to support the Licensee with any needs or challenges that arise throughout the licensing process.
WOLFpak's licensing program has continued to grow, with their roster now spanning Mattel (Hot Wheels, Barbie, Ken, and Masters of the Universe), Paramount (SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora, and TMNT), Sanrio (Hello Kitty), and Hasbro (Dungeons & Dragons). As the program continues to evolve, we're excited to keep building on this momentum β with more licensors and collections already in the works.
βBorn to License has been a strong partner for us across our licensing efforts. Itβs been easy to collaborate with their team, and theyβve played a key role in helping us execute lots of successful IP launches.β
