Born to License’s Top 5 Licensed Products: Video Games

At Born To License we’re passionate about licensing and its potential to create must-have products. We’re always on the lookout for new and exciting licensing collaborations from all over the world.

As inspiration for companies looking to make their first foray into licensing, we’ve asked a member of the Born To License team to highlight their favourite Top 5 licensed products from some of the most successful brands and Licensors in the biz. In this piece, CEO David Born discusses his favourite video game themed licensed products.

Did you know that about 66% of Americans – more than 215 million people – play video games regularly? In 2021 a total of US$60.4 billion worth of content, hardware and accessories were purchased across the US market. Video gamers love engaging with their favourite games in other ways, such as licensed merchandise. Here we’ll highlight some examples of how popular video game brands translate incredibly into consumer products.

    Pac-Man x Oreo

Oreo partnered with Bandai Namco to release six PAC-MAN themed Oreos, complete with special edition branding. Scanning each Oreo allows consumers to unlock exclusive gaming experiences, while entering a barcode from the package provided an opportunity to win prizes.

Marketing Director of Europe at Oreo Perrine Pierrard-Willaey said that he hoped the partnership “helps cookies and gaming fans to chase playfulness as they take part in this nostalgic gaming experience.”

    Tetris x Fizz Creations

If you’re going to make a waffle, why not make it in the shape of Tetromino’s? This clever waffle iron creates seven interlocking puzzle pieces, giving consumers the opportunity to play with their food at the breakfast table! The waffle iron comes with a number of Tetromino shapes in different colours, providing the user with a fun experience from start to finish.

    Mario Bros. x Paladone

There is a lot of Mario Bros. themed products out there, but I couldn’t get over this Warp Pipe themed plant pot. If you’re not great with plants, don’t worry - the 15cm tall round ceramic pot doubles as a pen holder! Luckily this Warp Pipe is not the same as in the Mario Bros. universe and is unlikely to transport the contents anywhere. Phewf!

    Pokémon x Wicked Cool Toys

After a long day of trying to ‘catch ‘em all’, a great quality rest is needed. This 45cm long sleeping Pikachu is perfect to cuddle up to and drift off to sleep. The super soft fabric exterior and fluffy filling makes it ideal for a nap. For those that need more than one, they can collect sleeping plush of Squirtle and other Pokémon!

    Minecraft x Disguise

All Minecraft players know that they need to run away from the Creepers before they explode! This deluxe Minecraft Creeper costume consists of a jumpsuit with a 3D chest and character mask. The mask has mesh eyes for easy visibility and an adjustable strap to fit different head shapes.

Video game fans continue to look for other ways to express their love for gaming, and the broad range of available consumer products is a great way for them to do that. Whether it’s something to eat, something to cook with, something to use, something to cuddle or something to wear, consumers have a broad selection of licensed products to choose from!
